Air Qual. Monitoring & Tahoma Relay Teams (9/6/25)
As of Friday evening
Obviously, air quality in Shoreline and N. Seattle is very poor. Although we anticipate that air quality in Maple Valley will be acceptable by tomorrow morning, here's a heads up of our air-quality plan in case things fail to improve:
We will monitor air quality reports coming out from near the course in the early morning. Unfortunately, this is not the first year we've had to do this, so we already have an internal standard in place:
If the AQIs near Lake Wilderness Park are above 100PM2.5, or if the AQI is near 100PM2.5 and rising, we will not be attending. Coaches will:
- Issue an email update ASAP--ideally around 6:15AM
- Update this post
- Be in the SC parking lot to explain the situation to any athletes who were unaware of the situation
At an AQI of 100, the meet may not be cancelled, and other teams may make the decision to attend. However, we've raced this meet at an AQI that was iffy, and regretted it. We don't want athletes who are especially vulnerable to air pollution to have to chose between their health and supporting the team!
- Willett
If we're attending:
- Meet info posted by the race directors can be found here.
- Meet at Shorecrest for the bus at 7:00am
- The first race is at 9:15am
- Remember to wear your uniform, and bring warm clothes/sweats. It will be colder in the morning
- We will be having lunch as a team after the races, so make sure you bring a lunch!
- We are running through water, so bring old shoes to race in, and an extra pair of socks to wear home
- We will leave the park around 12:30, and return to Shorecrest around 2:00pm
A draft of our relay teams are listed below! Expect last-minute changes to be made on the bus as we find out who is actually in attendance.
Teams set up on the coarse on a first-come first-serve basis, but spectators have a decent chance to find us North of the start/finish line, approximately here.
